Prices on rats will be listed under the individual litter now to prevent confusion.
All rats have a seven-day health guarantee. In that period, I will replace the
rat, if available, or give a refund of the purchase price.
After the seven days, I will always take back a rat, but I do not offer a refund.
ALL returned rats must be accompanied by a cage, suitable for living in during a three week quarentine period.
I do my best to ensure your rats are healthy when they leave us, and quarentining is a big part of that.
Adoption Contract:
I will only sell rats to adults, 18 years and older. This encourages the parent to be involved in the rat's life,
as very few children can fully meet the rat's needs alone.
All of my rats are sold as PET ONLY. That means no breeding whatsoever. This is for the safety of the
rat and my reputation. I will only sell same-sex pairs (2 bucks or 2 does), unless prior arrangements are made to have
the rat surgically altered. It costs around $100-$150. If it is done prior to the rat leaving LERA, I will
reduce the adoption fee.
The rat will not be sold, given or donated to any person without my prior knowledge and consent.
If you cannot care for the rat any longer (i.e. moving away), you will notify me.
You agree that this rat will be kept in appropriate conditions for its health and welfare and will be fed a suitable
diet for its age and condition.
You also agree that the rat will receive all necessary veterinary care to maintain its good health.
If the rat is abused, neglected, or maltreated, you will surrender the rat to me unconditionally and without financial
restitution or compensation. This includes breeding a PET ONLY rat- the rat and her babies will be surrendered with a suitable
cage.
All of my rats are sold as PET ONLY. My rats will not be used for reptile/bobcat/hawk food, or for research.
Rat Breeders: A few of my rats may be available as breeding quality to established
ratteries.
New Breeders: I had a negative experience from selling rats to someone who wanted
to start breeding, with no prior experience. Understandably I am very wary of new breeders. My breeding contracts
for new breeders are STRICT. My sister-in-law (new breeder, no exceptions) has two pages of limitations and
almost every sentence ends "with LERA approval". I am not trying to dissuade you from breeding rats, on the contrary,
I believe with guidence, you'll learn from other breeder's mistakes, and gain the experience of other breeders,
and I believe you will have a more positive experience and be more inclined to stick with it.
